Today I couldn’t figure out what to do – speedwork, or some endurance. I chose endurance because my right foot was hurting slightly – and I thought there was less a chance of hurting it with endurance. I was right!
I climbed the first round up the mountain in 15 minutes. That’s just a slow, steady pace. I added lots of double stepping into it – and got my heart rate up around 75% of max (max being 207 at last count) for 10 minutes. At the top I walked a lap of the shrines, and then turned around and went down the steps slowly – and without too much speed. It’s hard to hold off because for four years I’ve gone down fast every time. Now, I fear my knees aren’t going to take it well since I’m going for speed now – and so I baby them on the way down.
At the bottom I felt good – so I just stood there loosening up for 30 seconds, turned around and climbed again.
I did more double stepping this round, and employed my arms at times – to pull with both as I climbed up sets of 80-100 very fast and then rested a bit.
So, I added a bit of speedwork into this – it was all anaerobic – for the most part. I found I was hardly even breathing heavily after doing 80 steps at a time. It was strange… maybe like I was burning fat… hard to say. Just a weird – but, very nice state! I hardly had to catch my breath after done…
Oh wait, I did do something before this – that maybe helped me reach this state. I’m not telling what it is – because I’ve been experimenting with this technique a bit.
Oh wow, now I’m excited. I may have figured something out – a tremendous help to my climbing. I need to test it more, and do some research about it online. I wonder if anyone has used this technique to go faster before…
Maybe they won’t tell either!???
Ok then – a great workout – got my endurance in – over 2500 steps at 8.85 inches on average – a nice workout, and little pain in the knees or feet at the moment.
I heard Justin Stewart won the AON race in Illinois – brilliant. Wish I was back in the states sometimes to go race with these guys. Hopefully someone will make it over here to Asia to a race I do too.
Best of luck and life…
Oh, my diet… going well. Today had 2/3 of my meusli cereal, 2/3 my soy milk – so total about 400 cals. I had some watermelon for lunch, 1 80 cal yoghurt. For dinner – I just had 2 80 cal yoghurts and my wife just made me some fish soup with good veggies in it. Perfect. I’d say I used 600 calories today on the stairs and so far ate about 700 today. Will down 150 cals in soup and then probably grab a beer Leo to put me to sleep!
Dieting need not be all sacrifice.
