Stair Climbing Workout and Diet Notes

I rested 2 days after my severe stair climbing workout the other day. I could have gone yesterday, but time wasn’t in my favor to do it before daylight ended. I did a long walk that night – snake hunting for 3 hours instead.

Today I was excited to go – but my body never got that way. I felt great all day up to 2:30 pm when I went to the mountain. I was hydrated. I even had a decent noodle curry lunch. I should have had more energy. I think my blood sugar was down. The store stopped carrying Gator-Ade so i just have water now, which doesn’t give me any sort of energy burst.

I started the climb… I knew immediately – not good. My legs were OK. No pain either. My breathing was off for some reason and never got right that entire first climb. I did it about 13:30, a moderate pace to the top of the 288 m peak. I immediately turned around and ran down easily to the bottom. I didn’t want my heart rate to lessen that much. At the bottom I shook out my legs for 20 seconds, turned around and went back up.

At step 357 there is a group of 100 steps that are small enough to 2-step. So I hammered it. I felt like crap right before – but, I rarely listen to my body the first couple of sprints because things sometimes just kick in and I’m able to GO FOR IT after 1-2 good sprints.

This was the case today. I felt better after the first sprint. Actually, my breathing at the top didn’t hardly increase. Weird. I rested anyway, sure my body needed it and did another 120 stairs – double stepped and as fast as I could without running. I rested after that and felt even better. I went up to step 840 and did my sprints from there – 5 of them to 925, all 2-step. All running up as fast as I could. I rested between sets – and breathing seemed to take more to recover.

After those I started back down the steps and turned around at a 110 group of steps and ran up it 1-stepping. At the top I was completely burnt, dizzy, and ready for death.

I walked down from there – and finally about step 357 I could start going faster than a walk down.

Amazing day again. I’ll dream up some other interesting workout for the next speed day. Maybe a rest tomorrow and then a 3x up the stairs at moderate pace if my feet are not sore. Having some problem with the 1st joint at the footbone, pinky toe on L side. I’m sure shoes would remedy that… unfortunately, finding decent shoes in Thailand is like finding underwear or socks that fit. Impossible.

Oh, Diet Note – This morning – 1 dragon fruit and a handful of pretzels – about 180 cals.

Lunch – some noodle curry – estimating about 250 calories. Lots of cucumber and some uncooked green beans.

So, 430 cals so far today. probably will stay well below 1000 today again.

Ok, that’s it – will get some Berocca and relax a bit before wifey comes home and we go out to eat somewhere.

Cheers all!
